Before attending any Adventure at Howard H. Cherry Scout Reservation, you MUST complete the Camp Waiver – COVID.

Take a Biking Adventure around camp and experience the beauty of nature at Howard H. Cherry Scout Reservation. FREE bike rental is included with this adventure. However, you can also bring your own bike if you so choose, but must be taken to the Bike Barn for inspection prior to usage on the camp property. Check-in and check-out for this activity will be located at the Bike Barn. Please arrive 10 minutes early prior to the start of the check-in time for this adventure.

Experience the Beekeeping Adventure and learn how pollination plays an important role in nature at Howard H. Cherry Scout Reservation. Check-in for this adventure will be located in the main parking lot at Camp Wakonda. Please arrive 10 minutes early prior to the start of the check-in time for this adventure.

Conquer the Climbing Tower and view the world from high above by experiencing the Climbing Adventure at Howard H. Cherry Scout Reservation. Check-in for this adventure will be located at the Climbing Tower. Please arrive 10 minutes early prior to the start of the check-in time for this adventure.

Take some time and relax at camp by experiencing the Fishing Adventure at Howard H. Cherry Scout Reservation. Check-in for this adventure will be located at the Boat House on John’s Lake at Camp Wakonda. Fishing equipment will be available for check-out at the Boat House for FREE.

WAKONDA FOREVER! Take part in the Wakonda scAVENGER Hunt Adventure and help us find the infinity stones that are lost at camp! When you find all of the infinity stones, you will be rewarded with awesome Avenger prize. Following your adventure at camp, you can claim your prize at the Hawkeye Area Council’s Scout Office in Cedar Rapids. Check-in for this adventure will be located at the Dakin Dining Hall Plaza at Camp Wakonda.

When you arrive, you MUST park in the Camp Wakonda’s Parking Lot and must walk to program areas around the camp.Â

Everyone (adult and youth) attending camp must review and sign the “Camp Waiver – COVID”. If you are planning to camp, please review the “HHCSR CAMP USAGE POLICIES-For Family & Group Camping Program“ Once Complete, you MUST turn that waiver into the Council Office via email at: rachel.kaiser@scouting.org.Â
There is a collection area outside the Dakin Dining Hall Plaza at Camp Wakonda. If something is lost, be sure to check the lost and found area before leaving camp. Any items left will be taken to the Council Service Center in August. Items remaining in the office after September 30 will be donated to Goodwill.
Continuous – storm or high wind warning. Camp Wakonda has storm rooms placed around camp. If you feel the storm room is too far, hit the ditch, or move to low area.
Up and Down (intermittent) – fire, lost person, or lost swimming – report to the parade grounds
Three (3) short wails from a siren or perhaps a car horn – all clear, emergency over
These plans are posted in each campsite and in numerous places around our property.
National camping policies clearly state that
private vehicles are only to be parked in the parking lot. Roads in camp will be
restricted to service vehicles. Absolutely no one is allowed to ride in the bed of a truck
or on the back/front of a trailer or car. Handicapped-accessible parking is available in
the main parking lot at camp.
No tobacco use of any kind is allowed in any camp structure. Smoking is to take place only in posted designed smoking areas and never in the presence of minor children. No minors are allowed in the smoking area. Alcohol is NOT allowed at camp. Possession of any will result in immediate dismissal.
Adults need fishing licenses as required by state law. You may bring your own fishing equipment, or you can check out camp items including worms. Everyone must wear a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) while fishing along the shore (provided).
Group camping is open! For $25 a night enjoy hiking, biking, fishing (with valid license), a nature scavenger hunt and most importantly quality family time in the outdoors while practicing safe social distancing. Firewood can be delivered at your campsite for an additional $5.00. Campsite selection is on a first come first serve basis, it is important to note your family may be given a different campsite upon check in.Â
