Registration for 2025 Summer Camp Now Open!

Howard H. Cherry Scout Reservation is a premier Scouts BSA Summer Camp program with a wide variety of merit badge options, activities for younger and older Scouts.  Each summer, hundreds of Scouts make Howard H. Cherry Scout Reservation their summer camp home for a week of learning, achievement, leadership, and Scouting at its best.

2025 Summer Camp Registration

Campsite reservations for summer 2025 are now open!  Please click the link below to reserve your campsite online or call the Council Service Center at 319-862-0541.  Don’t wait! Reservations are taken on a first come, first served basis so reserve your campsite today.  The non-refundable campsite reservation fee is $85 per troop.

When making a Unit Registration, please be aware of the following:

  • Estimates: due for Youth and Adults during registration.  This helps determine how many campers the Camp Staff can expect during your week of Camp.  
  • Campsite Deposit: must be paid to hold a campsite for each unit.  It is non-refundable and non-transferable and will be forfeited if your unit cancels.  
  • 2024 Friends of Scouting Present Award: know if your unit qualified for the 2024 Friends of Scouting Campaign President Award.
  • Adult Requirements: minimum of two registered adult leaders 21 years of age or over must attend with the unit; after which, unit must maintain a 1 adult per 10 youth ratio.  For units with female youth, a registered female adult leader 21 years of age or over must be present at all times.  All adults who are present during a week of camp for 72 hours or more (need not be consecutive) must be registered as adult leaders with the BSA.  Any adult planning to stay overnight must be registered with the hosting unit. This registration involves submitting an adult BSA application to the council and completing Youth Protection Training (must be processed before camp).  Additionally, any adult spending the night or staying 72 hours (need not be consecutive) must submit parts A,B, and C of the BSA Health Forms.

Pistol Program

If you haven’t had the opportunity to participate in the Pistol program at summer camp this is your chance!  Open to the first 20 qualified youth – ages 14 and above. No meals or housing provided unless attending as part of Week 3 of summer camp. 

Dates:  Orientation for all participants:  July 8, 2019 1:00 – 4:00 pm
           Classes held July 9 and 11 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm or 6:00 pm– 8:00 pm 
                     (select one class session during registration )

Price:  $45.00/Youth
No fee for adult

Program is being offered during week 3 of summer camp, however Scouts do not need to be attending summer camp to participate in the Pistol program.

From Iowa City/Cedar Rapids: North on I-380 to exit 28, turn right (east) onto County Home Road (E34), go east to Hwy 13, continue east 5 miles into town of Whittier, turn left (north) onto Whittier Road (X-20), go 5 miles to town of Waubeek, turn right crossing bridge onto Boy Scouts Road, go 1 mile to Camp Waubeek, 2 miles to Camp Wakonda.

North on I-380 to exit 16, turn right (east) onto IA 151/30, go east 6.8 miles to exit 259 turn right onto Hwy 151/13, continue north 11.5 miles to County Home Road (E34), turn right go 5 miles to town of Whittier, turn left (north) onto Whittier Road (X-20), go 5 miles to town of Waubeek, turn right crossing bridge onto Boy Scouts Road, go 1 mile to Camp Waubeek, 2 miles to Camp Wakonda. From Central City: (Hwy 13) East 3 miles on E16, turn right (south) onto Duck Pond Road, go .7 miles, turn left onto Boy Scouts Road, go .7 miles to Camp Wakonda, 1.7 miles to Camp Waubeek.

From Monticello: Turn right (west) onto E16, go 12.4 miles, turn left (south) on X-20, go 1.2 miles, turn right onto E16, go 2.2 miles, turn left (south) on Duck Pond Road, go .7 miles, turn left onto Boy Scouts Road, go .7 miles to Camp Wakonda, 1.7 miles to Camp Waubeek.
